La iniciativa tiene por objeto garantizar sostenibilidad y la sustentabilidad de los recursos pesqueros y acuícolas. Entre lo propuesto se precisa que los ecosistemas acuáticos serán gestionados con un enfoque estratégico y ecoeficiente, a partir de instrumentos que integren y concilien los factores económicos, sociales y ambientales para garantizar así la sostenibilidad y la sustentabilidad de los recursos pesqueros y acuícolas.
